Apple Original Films has emerged as the studio that will distribute Bad Blood, the drama about the unthinkable actions of Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes. Adam McKay (Don’t Look Up, The Other Guys) will write and direct, with Jennifer Lawrence stepping into the role of Holmes.

Adam McKay’s Bad Blood film has reportedly been in the works for months, though no one would acknowledge that it was happening. Now the cat has come out of the bag, just as Holmes is entering the third week of her trial on charges of defrauding investors and patients on claims she made about her blood testing service. Once worth billions of dollars, Holmes was revealed to be a monster whose ground-breaking tech never actually worked. As a result of her lies, Holmes placed thousands of people’s health in danger. She’s bad news bears, folks. Like, Martin Shkreli levels of douchebaggery. Watching her fall from grace would be entertaining if it were not at the expense of others.

McKay and Lawrence are about to strut their stuff when Don’t Look Up hits Netflix on December 24, 2021.

Per the official synopsis from Netflix, “Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system. The problem — it’s on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care. Turns out warning mankind about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is an inconvenient fact to navigate. With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry). With only six months until the comet makes an impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media-obsessed public before it’s too late proves shockingly comical — what will it take to get the world to just look up?!”

In addition to Lawrence, Don’t Look Up features a star-studded cast that includes, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Tyler Perry, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Michael Chiklis, Ariana Grande, Timothee Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Scott Mescudi, Tomer Sisley, Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, and Mark Rylance.

Bad Blood is based on the book Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Start Up by former Wall Street Journal investigative reporter John Carreyrou. The story is bound to make you feel kinda gross as you witness the lengths Holmes went to when looking to deceive her clients. Be sure to bring a strong stomach and your moral compass to this one, folks. We’ll bring you more details about Adam McKay’s Bad Blood film when we learn more.
