Castle Freak reboot almost finished; should hit in mid-2020

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

As we all know good and well by this point in time, Fangoria and Full Moon are teaming up for a remake of the director Stuart Gordon's 1995 Full Moon classic CASTLE FREAK. And today we've learned from Barbara Crampton herself that this new film has finished shooting and should definitely be out on the film festival circuit by the middle of next year.

Crampton reveals:

I think we have a schedule for when things are supposed to be finished. Of course the editing process takes a little bit, and once you get that delivered, then you have to add sound and music, color and all that. So it really is a process. They're hoping to be done by the end of the year. So that's what we're looking for. That we have a completed film by the end of December, maybe early January.

Of course, we do what everybody's doing now with this independent world. We're gonna send it out to film festivals. We do have a distributor with the film already, so we'll see what they want to put it out and go from there. I assume definitely by the middle of next year, it'll be out on the film festival circuit. I don't know what it will be released. We don't have a date yet. But look for it early 2020.

Based on H.P. Lovecraft's story The Outsider, THIS version of CASTLE FREAK is written by Kathy Charles and centers on

recently-blinded Rebecca, her boyfriend John, and their friends as they travel to Albania to manage Rebecca’s sudden inheritance of a castle from her long-lost-mother. Once there, they learn that Rebecca’s family harbored dark secrets with potentially cosmic implications. As mysterious happenings and horrific murders begin to occur, Rebecca must unravel her family’s own mysterious history before she too falls prey to… the Castle Freak.

Special effects artist Tate Steinsiek will be making his feature directorial debut with the film which will star newcomer Clair Catherine, along with Jake Horowitz, Chris Galust, Emily Sweet, Elisa Pratt, Omar Brunson, and Kika Magalhães. Barbara Crampton is producing the new film with Dallas Sonnier, Amanda Presmyk, Justin Martell, Matt Manjourides, and Full Moon founder Charles Band. David Gilbert and Charles Dorfman serve as executive producers for financier Media Finance Capital. Fabio Frizzi has already been hired to compose the film's score.
