Roll out the pink carpet because Great Gerwig’s Barbie movie is rounding out its cast with another set of A-list stars. Yesterday, we learned that Issa Rae and Michael Cera were joining the film in undisclosed roles, and now we’ve gotten word that the cast is rounding out with more actors coming aboard.
Joining the cast of Barbie are Kingsley Ben-Adir (High Fidelity), Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman), Rhea Perlman (Cheers), Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education), Sharon Rooney (My Mad Fat Diary), Scott Evans (The Lovely Bones), Ana Cruz Kayne (Painkiller), Connor Swindells (Emma), Ritu Arya (Red Notice), and Jamie Demetriou (Cruella).
Directed by Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Barbie stars Margot Robbie as the iconic blonde bombshell, Ryan Gosling as Ken, Emma Mackey, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Hari Nef, and Will Ferrell. He is said to be playing the CEO of a toy company.
Noah Baumbach wrote the script, which takes the beloved title character in a bold new direction. Plot details are being kept under wraps, though I’m sure that fans will find plenty to enjoy about what Gerwig, Baumbach, and Robbie are whipping up.
The casting call for this movie is blowing my mind. I can’t believe I’m adding a Barbie movie to my list of must-see films for 2023. I have no idea what to expect from this project, but I’ll have to check it out, given all the talent involved. Let’s gas up the pink convertible and go for a ride!
