There are certain Batman comic book stories that get referenced quite often, like THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, THE KILLING JOKE, and THE LONG HALLOWEEN. In recent years, THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and THE KILLING JOKE have both gotten animated feature film adaptations, so it seems quite fitting that THE LONG HALLOWEEN would become an animated movie as well.
Warner Bros. Animation, the company behind the many DC Universe animated movies that have been released over the last decade, has not yet announced that they are working on bringing THE LONG HALLOWEEN to the screen, but the folks over at Revenge of the Fans have heard that the movie is happening, and they've even gotten a look at the cast list.
According to RTF, the adaptation of THE LONG HALLOWEEN will be a two-parter like adaptation of THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS was, which makes sense when you take into account that THE LONG HALLOWEEN was a thirteen issue story in the comics. Written by Jeph Loeb, the story was set during the first two years of Batman's crimefighting days and found the hero tracking
a mysterious killer named Holiday, who murders people on holidays, one each month. Working with District Attorney Harvey Dent and Captain James Gordon, Batman races against the calendar as he tries to discover who Holiday is before he claims his next victim each month, while attempting to stop the crime war between two of Gotham City's most powerful families, Maroni and Falcone.
In addition to Holiday, the story also features well-known Batman villains like Scarecrow, the Joker, Mad Hatter, Poison Ivy, and the Riddler, and tells the origin of Two-Face.
RTF hears that the cast hired to voice the story's characters includes Troy Baker, Jensen Ackles, Naya Rivera, Titus Welliver, David Dastmalchian, Jim Pirri, Amy Landecker, Matthew Gray Gubler, Katee Sackhoff, and Fred Tatasciore.
I've never read THE LONG HALLOWEEN myself, but it's a story I've always been interesting in. Putting "Halloween" in the title is always a sure-fire way to draw me in. I look forward to hearing more about this animated adaptation, especially an official confirmation that it's happening.
