Baz Luhrmann is not the most prolific director out there, but he’s always worth waiting for. It’s been eight years since the release of The Great Gatsby, but the director’s upcoming Elvis biopic is set to hit theaters next year. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. announced today that the release of the film is being pushed back.

Thankfully, the delay of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic isn’t a major one. The film was originally slated to be released on June 3, 2022, but the film will now be dropping on June 24, 2022. The musical drama stars Austin Butler as Elvis Presley and Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’ manager. The story will explore the “complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge ).

In addition to Austin Butler, Tom hanks, and Olivia DeJonge, the Elvis biopic also stars Gary Clark, Jr., Yola, Shonka Dukureh, Shannon Sanders, Lenesha Randolph, Jordan Holland, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Alton Mason. Baz Luhrmann directs and produces the movie, which he also co-wrote with Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce, and Jeremy Doner based on a story by Luhrmann and Doner.

Tom Hanks can currently be seen starring in Finch, which is now streaming on Apple TV+. Hanks plays an ailing inventor and one of the last men on Earth. When he goes on a journey across the country, he builds an android to keep him and his dog company. You can check out a review of Finch from our own Chris Bumbray right here.

Based on his past movies, we can certainly expect a unique, possibly wild Elvis biopic from Luhrmann. Are YOU excited for whatever that looks like?
