Ben Mendelsohn being eyed for villain role in Captain Marvel

Ben Mendelsohn has certainly played more than a few villainous characters lately, including Director Orson Krennic in ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, as well as the Sheriff of Nottingham in the upcoming ROBIN HOOD and Nolan Sorrento in Steven Spielberg's READY PLAYER ONE, but, according to Variety, he may be adding one more villain to his slate.

The outlet reports that CAPTAIN MARVEL directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are in talks with Ben Mendelsohn to play the film's main antagonist, which is expected to be the leader of the Skrulls. Mendelsohn previously starred in Boden and Fleck's MISSISSIPPI GRIND alongside Ryan Reynolds and Sienna Miller, and the pair apparently had the actor in mind when they first began working on CAPTAIN MARVEL. The studio had no comment on the potential casting, but if Ben Mendelsohn wants the part, I'd imagine that he'd get it. Can you picture Ben Mendelsohn as a Skrull?

Starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, CAPTAIN MARVEL finds the Air Force pilot involved in an accident with an alien which "imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight." During San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said that CAPTAIN MARVEL would take place in the 1990's and find Carol Danvers battling the Skrulls, a race of alien shapeshifters. Also, Samuel L. Jackson will be reprising his role as Nick Fury. I'm officially excited.

CAPTAIN MARVEL will hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
