I can tell you I didn’t see this coming, mainly because Ben Stiller is the comedy man. He’s going to develop to direct a spec script for THE MOUNTAIN. The spec script was written by Helen Childress, the pair re-teaming as Childress wrote REALITY BITES that Ben starred and directed.
20th Century Fox have taken measures to acquire the rights for the project. Stiller with Stuart Cornfield, his Red Hour partner will produce. THE MOUNTAIN is a story based on characters from the novel SUMMER by Edith Wharton. Deadline states the synopsis as: Set in the early 1900s, The Mountain revolves around a young woman who struggles to confront her destiny after stumbling upon a mysterious object that forces her to examine the secrets of her past. It’s a sophisticated horror premise in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby.
Childress and Stiller have another project in the works, an adaptation of THE SNOWY DAY, a children’s book. Seems like the man is really spreading out over a range of genres, good on for him doing so too. This sounds rather interesting, and I’d be interested to see how he handles this material.
