Bewitched movie based on the classic TV series in development

Bewitched, movie

Deadline has reported that Sony Pictures is developing a movie based on Bewitched, the classic TV series that starred Elizabeth Montgomery, because THAT WORKED SO WELL THE FIRST TIME AROUND!

Terry Matalas (MacGyver) and Travis Fickett (12 Monkeys) have been tapped to write the script for the Bewitched movie, which is said to be different from the 2005 romantic comedy version that starred Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell. Well, thank goodness for that. Deadline has been told that the new movie will use the original series as its jumping-off point, "in which a witch marries an advertising exec and then tries to hide her powers and her crazy relatives who drop in often." If you don't remember, the Betwitched movie gave things a meta-spin as Ferrell was an actor who was starring as Darrin Stephens in a remake of Bewitched while Kidman played an actual witch who just so happened to be playing Samantha Stephens. The film was a major critical disappointment, and if you couldn't tell, I'm still a little sore about it. Here's hoping that the new remake fares a little better.
