Beyonce speaks in latest TV spot for Jon Favreau’s The Lion King

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter was always director Jon Favreau's top choice to voice Nala in his "live-action" adaptation of THE LION KING, but as the musician was pregnant with twins at the time, it took several months before she officially agreed to sign on. Nala hasn't been featured all that often over the past few months, but the latest TV spot for THE LION KING puts Nala front and center and lets us hear a little of Beyoncé's performance. Check it out above!

While I'm certainly pumped to see Jon Favreau's new vision of THE LION KING, some have had issues with what they're seeing as a shot-for-shot remake of the animated classic. Thankfully, Favreau assured fans back in April that while the iconic elements are still intact, the new film will contain plenty of surprises. "The original holds up incredibly well," Favreau said. "So the challenge here was to tell a story in a different way but still deliver on people's expectations while surprising them somehow."

The official synopsis for THE LION KING:

Disney’s “The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau (“The Jungle Book”), journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

THE LION KING will hit theaters on July 19, 2019.
