BLACK PANTHER'S Letitia Wright was a part of the epic AVENGERS: ENDGAME scene that featured the ultimate display of girl-power showcasing some of the strongest female heroines in the film heading into battle against Thanos. It was a memorable moment that generated cheers from my opening night crowd when I saw the film in a packed theater last year (oh, what a time) and Wright believes that moment is sure to lead to an all-female AVENGERS film in the future.
Wright was speaking to "Yahoo! Entertainment" and the actresses revealed that she'd love to see her character Shuri team up with a host of female Marvel heroes in a full-length movie and thinks it's "only a matter of time" until it happens:
"I don't think we have to fight for it. Victoria Alonso (Marvel Studios' EVP of Production) is very strong about spearheading it, alongside Kevin (Feige, Marvel Studios President). It's only a matter of time before they do it."
Wright also added who she'd like to see on the all-female Avengers line-up and she named Danai Gurira (Okoye), Lupita Nyong'o (Nakia), Angela Bassett (Ramonda), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), and Brie Larson (Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel). In regards to Larson, she added, "Definitely have to have Captain Marvel, definitely."
Although Marvel is pretty mapped out for a bit with their upcoming films, an all-female team of superheroes could very well be explored via A-Force. The comic book series debuted in 2015 as part of Marvel's "Secret Wars" crossover storyline and features Marvel's first all-female team of Avengers. The series was ultimately canceled due to poor sales but some of the characters are in place in the films to make this a viable option. We already have Captain Marvel and Scarlet Witch while She-Hulk is on the way, and supposedly a female Hawkeye in Kate Bishop could be waiting in the wings as well. I know this will give some fans a collective eye roll but if done right, it could be pretty solid in my opinion.
Do YOU want to see an all-female AVENGERS film? Who would YOU want to see on the team?
