Black Panther: Wakanda Forever shuts down production as Letitia Wright recovers

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Letitia Wright

Earlier this summer it was reported that Letitia Wright had been hospitalized after a stunt rig incident on the set of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. At the time, a Marvel spokesperson said, “Letitia Wright sustained minor injuries today while filming a stunt for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ She is currently receiving care in a local hospital and is expected to be released soon.” It seems those injuries may have been a little more serious than thought as THR has reported that production on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will shut down in order for Wright to fully recover.

Letitia Wright had been recovering in London while Ryan Coogler shot as much as he could in Atlanta, but THR’s sources say that they’ve done all they can without her. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will shut down the week of Thanksgiving and is expected to get back underway early next year. “Letitia has been recovering in London since September from injuries sustained on the set of Black Panther 2 and is looking forward to returning to work early 2022,” a representative for Wright told THR. “Letitia kindly asks that you keep her in your prayers.” Here’s wishing Letitia Wright a speedy recovery.

In addition to Letitia Wright, much of the original cast has returned for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, including Winston Duke, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Martin Freeman, and Florence Kasumba. New additions include Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) as well as Dominique Thorne, who will be making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Riri Williams ahead of the Ironheart series for Disney+. The Black Panther sequel had been slated to hit theaters next July but was recently pushed back to November 11, 2022. The new release date is expected to stay firm despite the upcoming shutdown.
