The Untitled Charlie Brooker Project finally has a name. Netflix has now revealed the title of the new series—Blackmere—and dropped a handful of first-look images of the very, very, very, very serious crime thriller.
The six-part series is described as “a profoundly serious, stunningly original crime thriller which follows tormented Detective John Blackmere as he leaves the rain-soaked Northern city of Bleakford for London to avenge his partner’s death and catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of victims,. Contains blood and frowning.“
Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon) stars as Detective Blackmere, alongside Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones). It was also announced today that Rory Kinnear (The Diplomat) has joined the cast. Here are some first-look images from the series.
“I’m beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release,” Brooker said in a press release when the project was announced. “I’ve dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it. I’d pinch myself, but like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you.“
Blackmere will be released in early 2027.
In addition to Blackmere, a new season of Black Mirror is also in the works. “I can confirm that Black Mirror will return, just in time for reality to catch up with it,” Brooker said earlier this year. “So, that’s exciting. That chunk of my brain has already been activated and is whirring away.“
He added that putting together a new season is like putting together an album: “It’s a useful thought experiment when approaching a new story. I’ll often think of, ‘Well, what haven’t we done yet, and what tone am I looking for? … Where does this track come on the album, and what musical direction are we going to go into?’ We’ll find out. Very unlikely you’ll ever see a Black Mirror hoedown.“
The eighth season of Black Mirror kicked off production last month.
