You would think during a time when Cobra Kai, Saved by the Bell and Punky Brewster could make pop culture comebacks via reboots or continuations that it would be easy to make a reboot of Blossom happen. The popular '90s series ran for five seasons and 114 episodes from 1991-1995 and likely has a fanbase that wouldn't mind seeing what the characters are up to today but Mayim Bialik, who played Blossom Russo on the series, has said that she has been met with a lot of resistance trying to get a Blossom reboot greenlit.

Speaking with "Entertainment Weekly" while promoting the series' Monday debut on Hulu, Bialik states that "I guess I'm allowed to talk about this now, Don Reo and I do have a limited reboot that we would like to do. We've had a lot of trouble getting our network onboard." Bialik seems pretty excited about getting the reboot off the ground if she can and she's willing to even start a fan campaign to do so:

"It's been really fascinating. At a certain point, I may just start a grassroots fan campaign to see if we can do it because we absolutely would love people to see where these characters are. Reo and I talked about it and we kind of decided after literally years of trying to work on this that I would probably just say it out loud. We do have a well-formed idea and we would love someone to lets us do it."

Blossom was created by Don Reo and focused on Blossom Russo (Bialik), a teenager living with her father and two elder brothers. The series, which co-starred Joey Lawrence, Michael Stoyanov, Tedd Wass, and Jenna von Oy, tended to stay true to its wholesome storylines but it also tackled important topics such as addiction, sexual assault, and teen pregnancy. The show was a bit ahead of its time from a familial standpoint because the series didn't include a mother figure and featured a father dealing with raising his three kids on his own, particularly a teenage daughter that was going through all the changes a girl hopes to have her mother around for. Even though the series wasn't afraid to go down serious routes, the series was first and foremost a family sitcom and that is still able to generate laughs today.

Blossom originally aired on NBC and Bialik never really makes it clear which network she has been trying to pitch the reboot to. If it's still NBC, you would think they'd be all about it since it would likely be a good fit on their Peacock streaming service with Punky Brewster and Saved by the Bell. Perhaps if there is news on how well the original series is doing on Hulu the network will reconsider and we can see Mayim Bialik rocking her signature floppy flower hat once again in the near future.
