Blumhouse Productions have made a few horror movies with some jungle action in them recently; the ones that come to my mind are SWEETHEART, PREY, and their twist on FANTASY ISLAND. Now they're returning to the jungle to make a series called Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue for the Quibi streaming service. The press release notes that Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue is only a working title for this project.
The series is being written by Anthony Horowitz, best-selling author of the Alex Rider teen spy novels. Horowitz is also currently working on a mini-series adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera.
Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue (or whatever it ends up being called) will tell the following story:
When a small plane crashes into the Mexican jungle, nine complete strangers find themselves lost and alone in 500 square miles of rainforest. One by one, they’re targeted and they know that the murderer has to be among them. But who is it? And why do they have to die?
That could be fun to watch play out.
Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, and Marci Wiseman will be executive producing the series.
This is the third project Blumhouse has set up at Quibi. The other two are Wolves and Villagers, which stars Naomi Watts and is said to be in the vein of FATAL ATTRACTION, and the U.S. Army docuseries Ten Weeks.
Quibi gets its name from the fact that it offers "quick bites" of entertainment. Intended to be watched on your smart phone while you're on the go, episodes of Quibi shows are in the range of 10 minutes or less.
