Blumhouse’s Invisible Man really The Invisible Woman?

Universal and Blumhouse's reboot of the Dark Universe of horror movie monsters is set to kick off this May with UPGRADE and INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 writer-director Leigh Whannell's THE INVISIBLE MAN. The title role, of course, was at one point set to be played by SLEEPY HOLLOW and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN mega-star Johnny Depp, but that's obviously no longer the route the filmmakers are looking to take as we reported a few weeks back that it seems the producers are currently looking at Armie Hammer and Alexander Skarsgard for the lead role of Adrian Griffin:

A billionaire sociopath who made his money by developing an invisibility suit for the Department of Defense.

This news came on the heels of word that Blumhouse was looking to cast Jordan Peele's US star Elisabeth Moss as a character named Cecilia Kass. And today we have word via Moss herself that Blumhouse's THE INVISIBLE MAN may, in fact, end up being THE INVISIBLE WOMAN.

Elisabeth Moss says:

I would say that I can't talk about it. I can't really talk about it, but I would say that it's— I can't say anything about it. I would say I don't think I would be replacing Johnny Depp necessarily. I can say that. But I think it's an incredible story that maybe needs to to be retold, but maybe with a woman. I'm not saying I'm doing it. I'm just saying that theoretically, that would be a great idea.

Huh. From the semi-synopsis above it seems that Hammer or Skarsgard would be the main attraction, but then upon closer inspection, the above semi-synopsis really just lets us know that this Adrian Griffin fellow is just the guy who CREATED the invisibility suit – NOT the one who might elegantly wear it. Interesting…We'll keep up to date on all of this casting and make sure to pass along word once either Hammer or Skarsgard is cast or we know if this is an INVISIBLE WOMAN or not. Until then, make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think of this casting news in the comments section below!
