While rumored a while ago, The Wrap has officially confirmed that actor/comedian Kevin Hart will be playing the mercenary Roland for Eli Roth's upcoming videogame adaptation, Borderlands. He'll be joining previously cast Cate Blanchett, who is playing the character of Lilith.
Here's what Roth had to say about the casting:
I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin…Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an amazing Roland.
And here's the official synopsis for the game (which, presumably, the movie will follow…though judging by past videogame adaptations that's not necessarily a guarantee):
Borderlands is a visceral first-person shooter and roleplaying game about four “Vault Hunters” on a planet called Pandora who battle against local bandits and marauders in their search for a hidden vault rumored to contain advanced alien technology.
Meanwhile, Borderlands has no official release date as of yet, but we'll keep you updated!
