Boyle climbs Tower

JoBloJoBlo

Danny Boyle might not see his SUNSHINE in theaters for a while but he’s moving on to his next project. He has signed on to direct PONTE TOWER a film that will take place in South Africa’s 54-story skyscraper. The apartment tower was built in 1975 and was once one of the most desirable addresses in Johannesburg. But following the end of apartheid, gangs slowly crept into the building and it became one of the most dangerous places to live. There was even consideration to turn the tower into a prison since most of the criminals lived there anyway. The film is losely based on the novel “Ponte City” by Normal Ohler (a good record of which I had a hard time finding on the web). The film will follow a young girl who moves to the tower and comes under the control of a drug lord. The film will be shot at the Ponte City Apartments and will take place almost entirely within the tower. No word yet on when filming might begin.
