Bradley Cooper may battle a giant squid in Here There Be Monsters

JoBloJoBlo

Jaume Collet-Serra, director of ORPHAN and UNKNOWN, is the current director in talks to take over HERE THERE BE MONSTERS at Warner Bros. Also in line is Bradley Cooper who would star as Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones.

HERE THERE BE MONSTERS has gone through several directors such as Robert Zemeckis and Brad Bird before landing with Collet-Serra. But the fact that a star is already lined up gives a little more green to this light.

The screenplay was written by Brian Helgeland (MAN ON FIRE, MYSTIC RIVER, PAYBACK) and tells the revisionist story of John Paul “We Have Not Yet Begun To Fight” Jones. After he’s stripped of his British naval commission, Jones is hired by a shipping magnate to investigate the disappearance of merchant ships in the North Atlantic, which are used as toothpicks by a giant squid.

Collet-Serra is currently attached to two other high profile projects. He is working on a 2014 start on the Russell Crowe Dracula film HARKER, told from the point of view of a Scotland Yard detective.  He was also recently linked to the remake of AKIRA, which has since stalled due to budget concerns.  HERE THERE BE MONSTERS is in line to begin production as soon as Cooper completes THE HANGOVER PART III.
