According to Variety this morning, Gerard Butler (DRACULA 2000, REIGN OF FIRE) is in negotiations to star in the Andrew Douglas-directed flick PRIEST.
EVIL DEAD vets Michael DeLuca and Sam Raimi, alongside Josh Donen and Mitchell Peck are producing the film, scheduled to begin filming October 1 in Mexico. Based on the Tokyopop graphic novel created by Min-Woo Hyung, the wild west story revolves around a warrior priest who disobeys church law by teaming with a sheriff and a priestess to track down a band of renegade vampires who have kidnapped his niece.
The story sort of reminds me of the video game DARKWATCH, in some ways. Well okay, they both involve westerns and vampires. Perhaps VAMPIRE HUNTER D? Bah, the graphic novel looks cool, and hopefully the film translates well.
