Cameron Crowe is keeping busy these days. Right after WE BOUGHT A ZOO, the director decided to pick up another romantic comedy which will star Emma Stone. Word has it that the film is DEEP TIKI, which spent forever in development hell. The reason people might be thinking that is the location Crowe has chosen for the film– Hawaii. That film is still looking for a male lead.
After he’s done with that, Crowe will move on to direct an adaptation of two memoirs: One from David Sheff, Beautiful Boy about the struggle his son had with drugs and Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines, which contain the accounts of his son, Nic’s experiences.
BEATUIFUL BOY is a song from John Lennon about his son, Sean and served as a guiding light for David Sheff. The author decided to have a family of his own after the last major interview he did with Lennon before he was assassinated in 1980.
When the books were published in 2008, Paramount optioned the rights. They started looking at Steven Zaillian (MONEYBALL) to write the script. Paramount has dropped out along with producing banner, Plan B.
Crowe is also being looked at to work on an adaptation of Michael Chabon’s novel, TELEGRAPH AVENUE for HBO. The story is set in Berkeley and takes place during the Bush/Kelly elections.
