The official 2008 Cannes Film Festival lineup was announced earlier this morning in Paris and, yes, INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (or as they call it in France INDIANA JONES ET LE ROYAUME DU CRANE DE CRISTAL). Other notables include KUNG FU PANDA, THE CHANGELING, Woody Allen’s VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA, SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK and Steven Soderbergh’s CHE. This year’s lineup is decidedly lighter on the American fair after a 2007 that featured five films in competition alone (this year only two US films – CHANGELING and SYNECDOCHE – are in competition). A surprise addition was Soderbergh’s CHE, which was long-rumored to make an appearance but was counted out in recent days because it seemed the director wouldn’t have the film done in time. Also surprising was Clint Eastwood’s CHANGELING, which had the added benefit of a glamorous star in Angelina Jolie (just what the festival likes). The Cannes Film Festival kicks off on May 14th and JoBlo and Arrow should be returning this year for another one of their classic trips. For the full lineup, stay tuned to the official Cannes Film Festival website.
