Captain America 4: Anthony Mackie closes deal to headline Marvel sequel

Captain America 4 Anthony Mackie

It should be a secret to no one who our new Captain America is. But, instead of appearing in another season of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, sources say that when it comes to Captain America 4, Anthony Mackie has just locked in a deal to headline the fourth feature film in the Captain America franchise.

Plot details are unconfirmed but according to Deadline, the working title of the project is Captain America 4. This will likely mean that the film will continue plot threads started in the trilogy of Chris Evans-led superhero movies as well as open plotlines from the 2021 Disney+ series.

No director is currently in place but Captain America 4 is being scripted by The Falcon and The Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman. It is unconfirmed as to whether the film will see the return of Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes or Wyatt Russell as John Walker, but I would bank that Stan is the most likely to return in some capacity.

Marvel Studios’ Phase Four continues to chug along with dozens of films and series completed, filming, or in development. It is unknown as to when Captain America 4 will begin filming or even if it will be a part of the current Phase or the unannounced Phase Five. All I know is that I love it when a plan comes together and the MCU continues to prove itself a masterclass in cinematic universe building.
