UPDATE: Captain America: Chris Evans reacts to rumors that he’s coming back

UPDATE: Well, it looks like the news of Chris Evans returning to the MCU might have been premature, with the actor noting on Twitter that this is all "news to me." Is he just playing coy? Honestly, who knows – but I can't help but suspect one day, sooner or later, we'll see Evans reprise the role that made him a household name.

Despite adamantly stating he was hanging up his shield, Chris Evans is reportedly in talks to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America. No word on what the upcoming project will be that will see the return of Evans as the All-American Steve Rogers, but according to Deadline, it will likely not be a solo film for the Star-Spangled Avenger.

After Iron Man 3, Robert Downey Jr. appeared in multiple films as Tony Stark, and that supporting role seems to be the direction for Evans's return to the MCU. Sources claim Evans will be back for a single "project" with room for a potential second. Could this be a way to work Rogers into Falcon and The Winter Soldier? Or could this be a way to include Captain America in the already announced Armor Wars or Secret Invasion series on Disney+?

What is certain is that just like in Marvel Comics themselves, no one is ever really gone for good. Chris Evans left his character alive at the end of Avengers: Endgame, but writers are always capable of using words like quantum attached to other sciency phrases to explain how characters return from the dead. Evans's return does not guarantee that RDJ will come back as Tony Stark, but if this new contract pans out it certainly opens that possibility up quite a bit more.

Marvel has yet to comment on Evan's return to the MCU as Captain America, which is par for the course. My guess is that they'll make an official announcement once the deal is signed, sealed, and delivered. They'll also want to let fans know what project (or projects) the character will be involved with. Either way, it sounds as if America's ass is gearing up for more MCU action and I can't imagine a better start to this Thursday afternoon's news cycle. I know it hasn't been too long since Avengers: Endgame, but you've always got a seat at the table. Bring it on Mr. Evans. Let's go!
