Captain Marvel has now flown higher than Wonder Woman at the box office

Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, box office

According to an early Friday box office update from Deadline, Brie Larson's CAPTAIN MARVEL is poised to soar higher, faster and further than DC's WONDER WOMAN. When looking at the outlet's calculations, we see that Marvel's first female-led superhero adventure crash landed atop a $825 million worldwide take at ticket booths this Thursday. As impressive as that total is, it's estimated that the film will reach a $900 million dollar global milestone before the end of its third weekend in theaters. For the moment, CAPTAIN MARVEL has earned $538.6 million in international returns and $286.4 million domestically. With numbers like those, it's become quite clear that Marvel's '90s-centric feature has defeated both SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING and WONDER WOMAN on the big screen, making it the No. 16 superhero film worldwide.

Numbers aside, CAPTAIN MARVEL will have some competition at the cinema this weekend, as a fight for box office supremacy will likely be waged between Marvel's latest and Jordan Peele's sophomore effort US. Be that as it may, there's a good chance that, in time, CAPTAIN MARVEL will set a $1 billion dollar milestone. How do you like them apples, haters? Can you taste the sweet vindication?

Next weekend, Marvel's newest Captain will square off against Disney's pleasant pachyderm when Tim Burton's DUMBO arrives in theaters. Starring Eva Green, Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, Michael Keaton, Alan Arkin and Joseph Gatt, among others, DUMBO will re-imagine the story of a young elephant, whose oversized ears enable him to fly. During his adventure, the lovable animal works to help save a struggling circus. Unfortunately, when the circus plans a new venture, Dumbo and his friends discover dark secrets beneath its shiny veneer.

CAPTAIN MARVEL is punching holes in the box office right now.
