Carla Norton and Matt Venne will take you to The Edge of Normal

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

To date, every project in the Writer section of Matt Venne’s filmography has been something genre-related, from episodes of MASTERS OF HORROR and FEAR ITSELF to the mini-series adaptation of Stephen King’s BAG OF BONES and a handful of sequels: WHITE NOISE 2: THE LIGHT, MIRRORS 2, FRIGHT NIGHT 2 (the 2013 one, pictured above), and the upcoming THE EXORCISM OF MOLLY HARTLEY. He has even been working on turning the Keanu Reeves/Al Pacino movie THE DEVIL’S ADVOCATE into a television series.

Venne was once again dealing with dark subject matter when he wrote an adaptation of Carla Norton’s novel THE EDGE OF NORMAL on spec. The book story centers on

a woman who escaped captivity from a sadistic sexual predator when she was a teenager. Ten years later, she remains haunted by her memories as she struggles to pull her life together. She finds ultimately herself drawn into a deadly cat-and-mouse game with a clever psychopath who seems to know her every move.

The spec adaptation has now been purchased by Bold Films and will be brought to the screen by producers Michel Litvak, Matthew Rhodes, Lisa Zambri, and Andrew Deane, and executive producers Gary Michael Walters and Ava Jamshidi. The search is on for a director who can deliver a film that Litvak hopes will be an “edge-of-the-seat” thriller in the vein of SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.

The story sounds very promising in that regard, this has the potential to be quite disturbing. I’ll be keeping an eye on the development of this one.
