South African beauty Charlize Theron and THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE director Scott Derrickson are teaming up on a remake of the Dutch supernatural thriller “Zwart Water” (BLACK WATER). Summit Entertainment will take a break from making TWILIGHT movies and produce.
In BLACK WATER, nine-year-old Lisa discovers her sinister new friend is the ghost of the dead twin of Lisa’s mother. Lisa’s father also begins to suspect his wife of hiding a terrible secret, resulting in deadly consequences.
Theron, who is also producing the film, will play the unhinged mother; so far, she’s the only actor in the cast. Derrickson co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Boardman.
Derrickson will presumably helm BLACK WATER after he’s finished with the found footage flick he’s currently making with Ethan Hawke. Incidentally, that film is also set up at Summit; the company obviously likes Derrickson’s style. (Did they see THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL..?)
