Chase Stokes botched his Stranger Things audition

Chase Stokes may have a good gig in the Outer Banks, but that may only be because he blew it in the Upside Down, as Stokes revealed that he auditioned for the role of Steve Harrington on Stranger Things but botched the opportunity.

At a recent event promoting the new season of Outer Banks, Chase Stokes told Access Hollywood of his Stranger Things audition, “I actually read for Steve Harrington and forgot all the lines and absolutely effed up the audition…I drove eight hours from Atlanta back to Orlando regretting every moment of my life on that.” The role would end up going to Joe Keery, who Chase Stokes is a fan of. “He’s so damn good as Steve Harrington…I’m super proud of him. I’ve talked to him a little bit throughout the years.”

Still, Chase Stokes isn’t oblivious to the Netflix ties between Stranger Things and Outer Banks, even showing gratitude to the Stranger Things creators for his success in a roundabout way. “I’m just thankful for the Duffer brothers for giving me an opportunity to do my job and to start my career…I mean, if it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be here and the executive producers and the Netflix people who are part of that show were also part of Stranger Things. It’s a very full circle moment for me.”

It was recently announced that Outer Banks was renewed for a fourth season ahead of the season three debut, which is on February 23rd. Stranger Things, meanwhile, wrapped up its own fourth season last summer. The fifth and final one is set to begin production in May.

How Chase Stokes would have fared on Stranger Things as Steve is anyone’s guess, but the character has gone on to become a fan favorite after starting off as the show’s token jerk. We’re sure Stokes would have pulled off the Scoops Ahoy outfit, at least.

How do you think Chase Stokes would have done as Steve on Stranger Things? Could he have nailed the part or is Joe Keery the natural choice? Let us know your take in the comments section below!
