Gareth Edwards’ low-budget, epic-in-scale creature feature MONSTERS already had my attention from the trailer, but this pair of cool behind-the-scenes featurettes we just scored (via IGN & Best Buy) has elicited as much respect for the director as I had enthusiasm for his film. Check out the interesting, educational words from Mr. Edwards below!
Both looks offer fascinating insight to the low-fi strategies and techniques Edwards employed, essentially having no more than 4 crew members at one time. Of course, the film only stars two people (Whitney Able and Scoot McNairy)…so the ingenuity behind making such a small film feel so large in proportion is pretty astounding. Edwards also assures that, with the right equipment and knowledge, it is very possible to make a feature film practically in your basement. Dude’s living proof!

Six years ago, when NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after new life forms began to appear there and half of Mexico was quarantined as an “Infected Zone.”
Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain “the creatures”… The story begins when a US journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.
