There’s only two weeks until Vincenzo Natali’s SPLICE drums up nausea in theaters everywhere. As such, Dark Castle has wisely issued a trio of fresh TV spots for the modern FRANKENSTEIN meets SPECIES yarn. As always, find them shites at the bottom of the page or over in our video section.
The first spot, entitled “Meet Dren,” is essentially a moving image version of a poster that came out earlier this month (that’s it to the right). Dren, which spells nerd backwards, is the name of the alien specimen Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley have created. Through a montage timeline, we see Dren at various stages of development.
The second ad, labeled “Newest Miracle,” is probably the most visceral. We’re led to believe Dren is these scientists’ latest breakthrough, but all that is quickly sullied through a series of disgusting action shots (no, not Brody doing the deed with his newest miracle).
Lastly is “Renegade,” a clip that iterates how rogue these two scientists are, how even in the face of massive legal ramifications, they’re intent on forging ahead with the creation of Dren.
For those who’ve been asleep for the past few months, SPLICE follows:
Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, as they defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named “Dren”, the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators – only to have that bond turn deadly.
Be sure to read reviews for the flick by our very own John “The Arrow” Fallon and Eric Walkuski.
