The new teaser for The X-Files debuted during the penultimate episode of Wayward Pines last night. While brief, it is comprised entirely of new footage from the event series premiering in January. Looking at the quick shots, you can tell this is no reboot, but there is a boot in it.

The quick cuts in the fifteen second spot show geared up soldiers entering a compound, one of them stepping on Mulder’s iconic “I Want To Believe” poster. Is this a not-so-subtle nod at the failed second X-Files movie? You never know. We then see a glimpse of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson from what appears to be the same scene in the first teaser. All together, it is more than enough to pique interest for the new episodes.

As a die-hard fan of The X-Files, I couldn’t be more excited to see this new series. While it may only be six episodes, I have a feeling it could easily become a recurring event series that doesn’t run the normal network mandated twenty-two hours. Padding seasons that long often ends up diluting the product. Six episodes feels too short, but I am confident we are going to get the six best stories Chris Carter and his team have to offer.

The X-Files will debut with two episodes on FOX beginning Sunday, January 24th after the NFC Championship with another on Monday, January 25th at 8pm, the normal time slot for the rest of the series.
