Danny Boyle’s production of FRANKENSTEIN is alive and well at the National Theater in London, where obviously only a certain amount of people can attend and enjoy. But, as we found out a few weeks ago, the rest of the world is going to get an opportunity to watch Boyle’s interpretation in the comfort of their local movie theater (well, the ones that are participating) as two broadcast will be shown – on March 17th and March 24th. (Only the 17th showing will be live, however; the 24th screening is pre-taped.)
To help promote the event, a quick, freaky teaser has been whipped up; featuring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller – who alternate roles as Dr. Frankenstein and his monster – the preview gives you an idea of the show’s dark, philosophical nature, as well as the intriguing role-swapping angle.
From the National Theater’s website:
For the first time ever, National Theatre Live will broadcast two separate performances of a production. Throughout the run of Frankenstein at the National Theatre, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller are alternating the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature. Audiences in cinemas will have the chance to see both combinations, with two broadcasts a week apart.
17 March: Benedict Cumberbatch (Creature), Jonny Lee Miller (Victor)
24 March: Jonny Lee Miller (Creature), Benedict Cumberbatch (Victor)
