Star Trek: Chris Pine hasn’t seen a script yet for the fourth installment

Chris Pine, Star Trek, fourth installment, script

Chris Pine might be excited about the fourth Star Trek installment but he can’t offer up much insight on the film because he has yet to see a script.

The actor is busy doing press for his latest film, All The Old Knives, and he was asked by “Variety” about Star Trek 4. Pine jovially said that none of the cast had been informed that they were making the announcement about their return by stating “We’re usually the last people to find out, but I do know we’re all excited.” That is when he clarified that the cast has yet to see a script for the new film.

“Whenever they want to send us a script, we’re ready for it.”

Pine was then asked again about the story and he said that he didn’t know “anything about it.” When the actor was asked if he trusted the studio and filmmakers to sign on to Star Trek 4 without seeing a script he said, “I don’t trust anybody, but I’m excited. I love the story. I love Star Trek. I love my people.”

This is pretty much in line with previous news that the returning cast members, including Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg, were not aware that an announcement was going to be made by J.J. Abrams during that big Paramount Pictures investment day. The good thing is that none of them seem opposed to returning, they just need to see what they’re signing up for before taking the big leap.

Star Trek 4 is supposed to start filming in the fall with plans for the film to be released by December 22, 2023. The screenplay is still being worked on and Paramount Pictures hasn’t put forth a budget just yet. With the actor’s deals still on the table, I imagine the budget will get pretty high. WandaVision director Mark Shakman was previously announced to be directing the fourth installment.
