Chris Pratt confirms that Guardians Vol. 3 will use James Gunn’s script

We all know the story by this point; after a series of offensive tweets were re-discovered on James Gunn's Twitter last summer, Disney made the choice to cut their ties with the director which left GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 without a captain. There was initially some hope that Disney would bring Gunn back, but those hopes were quickly dashed. The studio is still searching for someone else to take the helm of the third GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY film, but although they don't want Gunn serving as director, they seem more than happy to continue using his script.

While speaking with MTV News to promote THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART, Chris Pratt confirmed that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 will be using James Gunn's script. Not only that, but he's already read the script and is quite pumped about it. "It's off the chain," Pratt said. "It's so good. It's so good." This is probably good news for Dave Bautista, who threatened to quit if Gunn's script wasn't used. Much of the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY cast, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, and Michael Rooker, came out in support of James Gunn when he was first booted from the sequel, and Pratt was asked how he felt going into the project without Gunn.

We're gonna deliver the movie, we're gonna give the fans what they deserve. And I think it's in the nature of the Guardians of the Galaxy to come together and get the job done, and that's what we'll do.

As the film obviously doesn't have a director at this point and hasn't started filming, there's no guarantee that James Gunn's script will make it to the big-screen, but at the moment, it seems the script is still in play. One of the names which has been brought up as a possible replacement for James Gunn is Taika Waititi, but the THOR: RAGNAROK director recently said that he will definitely not be directing GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3. "For me, those are James (Gunn)’s films. Going into something like that with his stamp all over his films, would be like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad, and this is how we make peanut butter sandwiches now. It feels kind of awkward," Waititi said.
