Making such RITES OF PASSAGE are Christian Slater (right) and Stephen Dorff, who are set to star in a new indie-thriller…the directorial debut of POINT BREAK and PATRIOT GAMES scribe W. Peter Iliff.
Wes Bentley, Kate Maberly, Sharon Hinnendael (below) and Guy Burnet have also been added to the production.
According to Variety, RITES OF PASSAGE centers on an anthropology bookworm who laments his place in a society that lacks a ceremony to mark his transition into manhood and leads his hard-partying, stressed-out classmates to his family’s abandoned ranch — where his brother lives in a psychotic world of drugs, guilt and Chumash Indian rituals. Slater will portray the brother and Bentley will play his meth-head sidekick.
With the American Film Market in hours from kickoff, production on the film is likely to start this week. About the project, Iliff beamed:
“The stressed-out, hard-partying, ‘hook-up’ student culture I see today stirs up a lifestyle reminiscent of the decline and fall of Western civilization. When I decided to make the transition to directing, I wrote a script that was location specific, made a little iMovie, and used it as a vehicle to attract private investors. And it worked.”
Now let’s see if Slater, Dorff and Bentley work…
