Christopher Nolan says his days of directing DC movies are likely over

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

In a perfect world, Christopher Nolan would direct every DC property because he arguably helped usher in the modern age of the superhero genre with his realistic portrayal of the Caped Crusader in his DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY. Unfortunately, the world is not perfect and the TENET director is saying that his days of directing DC comic book movies are likely over.

In an interview with "Geeks of Color", Nolan and John David Washington were discussing TENET but near the end of the interview, Washington was asked about the popular fan-casting that has him being the perfect Green Lantern and if he'd ever join the DC universe. Washington deferred to Nolan by saying "ask him" and Nolan, with a laugh, said, "I think my DC days are over." You check out the interview below:

I guess it is a bit of wishful thinking that Nolan would want to jump on the DC train again. He truly redefined what superhero movies could be with BATMAN BEGINS, THE DARK KNIGHT, and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES but Nolan is likely full of original ideas and I'm sure he wants to nurture those before jumping on established IP. His career began with cerebral independent films like MEMENTO before he stepped into studio movies and he's been one of those rare directors to make event films that also challenge your psyche. Also, even while making studio films, he still managed to indulge in his aspirations. In between BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT, Nolan directed THE PRESTIGE, which is on a much smaller scale than some of the studio films he began to embrace once BATMAN BEGINS became a hit. Another example is between THE DARK KNIGHT and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, he made INTERSTELLAR. That film, despite how massively successful it was, is more in line with the prestige part of his filmmaking skills rather than the mind-bending action that drove INCEPTION or the purely technical and visceral experience that turned DUNKIRK into a hit. Being a "Christopher Nolan" movie is an IP itself and he really doesn't need to adapt someone else's material to achieve success.

Would YOU like to see Nolan take on another DC project or should he stick to his original material.?
