Clash of the Titans producer says there are no plans for a third film

Even though critics didn't love 2010's CLASH OF THE TITANS, it was still pretty successful at the box office, earning $493 million worldwide ($162 million domestically) against a $125 million budget. Last year's sequel WRATH OF THE TITANS wasn't as profitable ($221 million in foreign markets, $83 million domestically), and once again, critics tore it apart. But did the sequel earn enough to warrant another film, and is there any interest in making one?

IGN caught up with producer Basil Iwanyk (CLASH OF THE TITANS and its sequel, THE TOWN, Alex Proyas' upcoming GODS OF EGYPT), and they asked him about the possibility of a third film.

Not at this point, but you never know. In terms of Clash of the Titans 3, it's one of those situations where we've seen it a million times; a movie will kind of float away and then come back when it's supposed to come back. You'd think that there was three and a half, four years of nonstop Clash of the Titans activity, and I think it is, "Okay, what's the new idea? How do you make it fresh?" You know, a lot of movies have come out in that world, including Immortals and 300. So there will be a time and place where someone will come up with a great idea for it and how to make it feel different and fresh from the previous ones. Then we'll hopefully move forward on that.

Although Iwanyk sounds hopeful in his comments about a third film, I think it's going to be a long time (if at all) before we see another TITANS movie. Wanting to have a new and fresh idea for the next film is great and all, but money talks louder than anything else, and since WRATH OF THE TITANS underperformed in theaters by such a large amount, I doubt we'll be seeing another sequel (SKIRMISH OF THE TITANS? ALTERCATION OF THE TITANS?) anytime soon.
