Cloverfield poster?

JoBloJoBlo

I swore to myself that I would never write a so-called CLOVERFIELD article. I was computerless when that whole monsoon hit and when I came into the game, I was behind a couple of days, and it was all too overwhelming to catch up. I don’t remember such online hype and obsession for a movie ever, especially one starring complete unknowns (was the BLAIR WITCH fiasco this intense, and would this have the same fever pitch if J.J. Abrams wasn’t attached?).

But I’ve decided to break my silence because I’ve come across something that I enjoyed, and I know you will too. Almost everything printed about this movie so far has been baked in speculation, and in keeping with that theme, I present to you a possible teaser poster, taken by someone with their cellphone camera. The poster clearly has an image of a headless Statue of Liberty (amazing, by the way) with the word ‘monstrous’ on top, and what the photog claims to be 1-18-08 in the bottom right corner. I’m assuming that ‘monstrous’ is simply a tagline and not the film’s title, but if it does turn out to be the much-debated about title, I wouldn’t be entirely disappointed. It’s a little B-movie, but balsy at the same time. The poster was said to be taken at a booth that sells collectors posters, which strikes me as a little odd. What do you guys think? Is this the real deal? I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough at Comic-Con.
