Cobra Kai: Karate Kid III’s Terry Silver returning for season 4

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Cobra Kai will continue its nostalgia-inducing supremacy by going back to one of the Karate Kid sequels to bring back a fan favorite. It has been announced that Thomas Ian Griffith, who played Terry Silver in The Karate Kid Part III, will be appearing in the upcoming fourth season of the popular Netflix series.

The announcement was made by Netflix on their official YouTube page which features Griffith standing with his back to the screen as the camera slowly zooms in on him. The Karate Kid Part III Dialogue can be heard over the 22-second snippet, which only intensifies Terry Silver's highly anticipated return to the Karate Kid franchise. You can check out the Netflix announcement at the top of the page.

When speaking about Thomas Ian Griffith's return, Executive producers/writers Josh Heald Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg said "Since the beginning of the series we've been carefully orchestrating the right moment to unleash Cobra Kai dojo co-founder Terry Silver back into the universe. That moment is now. We can't wait for the whole world to experience Thomas Ian Griffith's majestic return to the franchise."

The Karate Kid Part III was Griffith's first film back in 1989. In the movie, Griffith's Terry Silver was a rival martial arts expert who influenced Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) against his friend and mentor, Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita). You have to give the creative minds behind Cobra Kai a lot of credit because The Karate Kid Part III received negative reviews upon release and wasn't as financially successful as its predecessors but the entry does have its fans and it's smart to tap into that fanbase to add more conflict to the series. It's honestly the best fan service I've seen from a show and I mean that as a true compliment.

Cobra Kai takes place over 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament with the continuation of the inescapable conflict between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). The third season finds everyone reeling in the aftermath of the violent high school brawl between their dojos, which has left Miguel in a precarious condition. While Daniel searches for answers in his past and Johnny seeks redemption, Kreese further manipulates his vulnerable students with his own vision of dominance. The soul of the Valley is at stake, and the fate of every student and sensei hangs in the balance. The series also stars Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Decenzo, Vanessa Rubio, Peyton List, and Martin Kove.
