Columbia’s Ghost Rider sequel blazes on without star Nicolas Cage?

Nic Cage’s financial woes have been a point of public speculation for awhile now. And though he’s involved in a number of high profile films in hopes of bolstering the ol’ bank account (SEASON OF THE WITCH, DRIVE-ANGRY, THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE, etc.), one film that may be leaving Cage in the dust is GHOST RIDER 2. Wait, really?

According to Vulture, Columbia is intent on forging ahead with a sequel to the 2006 hit superhero adaptation, with plans to commence production later this year. You see, if production is started by November 14th, rights to the project my expire, reverting them back to the hands of Marvel’s new owner, Disney. Time, folks, is certainly of the essence!

Further complicating the matter is Cage’s hectic schedule, which sees him tethered to NATIONAL TREASURE 3 this fall. In order to cover their basis, Columbia is said to have asked for an extension to the November 14th target date if, in fact, Cage is unavailable.

No director is attached to GHOST RIDER 2, but a script by David S. Goyer (BLADE, BATMAN BEGINS) is steadily making the rounds.

So what do y’all make of this madness? You in favor of a Cage-less GHOST RIDER? If so, who do you think has the right shoe size to fill his place?

Let some damn blood, please!

I’d ghost ride Eva Mendes’ healthy backside any day!
