Come Play: Gillian Jacobs film gets Digital & DVD/Blu-ray release this month

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Following its October theatrical release, writer/director Jacob Chase's "spine-chilling paranormal thriller" Come Play is now set to receive a Digital release on January 12th, with a DVD, Blu-ray, and On Demand release to follow on January 26th. Come Play can be pre-ordered on Prime Video HERE, and on DVD and Blu-ray at THIS LINK.

A feature expansion of Chase's short film Larry, Come Play stars Gillian Jacobs, John Gallagher Jr., and newcomer Azhy Robertson. The story centers on

Oliver (Robertson), a lonely young boy who feels different from everyone else.  Desperate for a friend, he seeks solace and refuge in his ever-present cell phone and tablet.  When a mysterious creature uses Oliver’s devices against him to break into our world, Oliver’s parents (Jacobs and Gallagher) must fight to save their son from the monster beyond the screen.

The "mystical creature" the family has to deal with was created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

Come Play was produced by The Picture Company for Amblin Partners, and when the project was first announced it was said that the intention was to "harken back to early Amblin movies" with this one.

I didn't venture out to see this movie when it was on the big screen, but I'll gladly watch it at home later this month.

Arrow in the Head's own The Iceman gave Come Play a 6/10 review, which you can read RIGHT HERE.
