JoBlo.com was founded in 1998. We remain one of the longest standing independent movie fansites in the world and we pride ourselves on that, as well as our extreme focus on movies and not much else (well, maybe TV sometimes). To that end, most recently, some of you may have noticed that, to the best of our ability, we’ve deleted some posts from our COMMENTS sections below our articles. When folks went overboard, we banned them, and now, we're bringing in a little outside help in the form of our very-own in-house "cleaner" – Winston Wolf.
Why did we do so?
Very simple. JoBlo.com is a MOVIE FANSITE and that's our focus. While some of our stories may inevitably dip their toe into politics and controversy, we still insist that our readers respect the rules of our house. As soon as we notice any debates that are veering off into abuse, bickering and similar shit that we don't allow (such as bullying), we will be deleting your comments (without warning) and if you continue, BAN you for life. Some stories are more heated or controversial than others, but before you post anything that goes way overboard, CHILL OUT.
Listen up folks. Things out there aren't great. People flock to our pages to get away from that. We aren't here to debate world politics. If you wanna do that, there are hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of other blogs/websites for that sort of thing.
JoBlo.com is not one of those sites.
And finally, it goes without saying but fuck it, we're gonna say it anyway: NO HATE SPEECH of any kind or ABUSE toward any other member of the site (or staff) will be tolerated. Our man Winston Wolf will be keeping an eye on you and advising us of any "problem" users. Your comments will be deleted immediately and, if need be, so will your account.
Basically, don't be an asshole, talk responsibly and everything should be okay for you.
The purpose of our COMMENTS section is, and has ALWAYS been, to serve as a way for our users to communicate with each other about whatever the article’s about, but in a constructive, friendly way. You can have opinions that are controversial – that’s fine. But if you want to debate with people do so in a respectful way and really, if you want to talk politics or religion this isn’t really the place. Don’t treat our talkbacks like Twitter. We’re NOT Twitter!
Look folks, we HATE banning people (thankfully it's only a small % of people, less than 1%) so keep things nice and chill and we won’t have a problem. Likewise, any racist, abusive comments that The Wolf misses should be reported to myself via my email address – chrisbumbray@joblo.com and the culprits will be dealt with immediately!
