Moviehole has a slightly troubling bit of news regarding CONAN THE BARBARIAN, Nu Image/Millennium’s re-telling of the classic Robert E. Howard tale. (Yes, it’s CONAN THE BARBARIAN now, not “CONAN 3D”.) To get right into it, evidently there have been test screenings of the adventure flick going down, and they’ve been less than encouraging. What does that mean for the picture? Why, re-shoots of course!
Moviehole wonders if the film’s title change is because they’ve maybe gotten rid of the 3D altogether. Their tipster tells them: “It could be that they have abandoned 3D but last I heard they were going to shoot some more 3D friendly scenes and then hire a freelance firm to convert it in post”.
Seems to me that they’ve known for a while that the flick was going to be released in 3D – so why would it now occur to the producers that there should be some “3D friendly scenes”? Something could be amiss…
Going further, the tipster says the screenings have gone “Okay, but look… some people need to realize this isn’t a film version of the Robert E.Howard books, it’s an interpretation… another spin on the character. It’s a little bit different, but I think it’s fine”.

Hmm.. Not exactly “This movie is awesome and will kick your ass!!” is it? Sounds like this tipster might be close to the production and doesn’t want to arouse panic… But who knows for sure? We won’t until the flick is released in August of next year, so let’s hope that, if there are any kinks, they get ironed out before then.
