Earlier this month came the rumor that Daniel Stamm (THE LAST EXORCISM) would be tackling the next portion of M. Night Shyamalan’s “Night Chronicles”; the first in this series, DEVIL, hits theaters on September 17th, and while there’s not much buzz surrounding it (it hasn’t been screened for critics), I have a hunch that it will do moderately well. In anticipation of DEVIL‘s unveiling, we get the news that the Stamm rumor is true.
According to Deadline.com, Stamm will helm REINCARNATE (previously known as 12 STRANGERS), which focuses on a jury which is haunted by supernatural forces that hold the key to a case involving an accused murderer. Sounds very cool, if you ask me – 12 ANGRY MEN with a horror vibe.
The script was penned by Chris Sparling, who is quickly making a name for himself in this genre; the scribe also wrote BURIED, which stars Ryan Reynolds and comes out later this month in limited release. That too makes the most out of a tight, confined situation. It’s obvious that M. Night is going for locked-room thrillers with his “Night Chronicles”, which is smart because they can be done on tight budgets and a short shooting schedule. Let’s just hope they turn out to be, you know, good…
Production on REINCARNATE will begin next year.
