Contemporary version of Frankenstein being prepped at Sony

While we wait patiently for Guillermo del Toro’s take on Frankenstein starring Doug Jones – and wait patiently we must, as it’s probably not happening any time soon – we’ll have to be content with a “contemporized” version that has just found a home at Sony. I’m already nervous…

As reported by Deadline.com, said updated version of FRANKENSTEIN was pitched by writer Craig Fernandez, who wrote BIKER BOYZ and the upcoming FROM PRADA TO NADA. Look, I don’t want to judge prematurely here, but those aren’t the credits of a man whose vision of Mary Shelley’s tale I care about… Fernandez’s specialty seems to be contemporizing classic stories for today’s audiences: FROM PRADA TO NADA is apparently a take on Jane Austin’s “Sense and Sensibility”, while he’s got THE COURAGEOUS – a version of Rudyard Kipling’s “Captain Courageous” – waiting in the wings…

Matt Tolmach, who is producing the SPIDER-MAN reboot for Sony, picked up Fernandez’s pitch and will produce. No director has been assigned just yet. Let’s hope it’s not the director of f*cking FROM PRADA TO NADA.

Camilla Belle is in FROM PRADA TO NADA
