Two of the year’s most anticipated albums – Daft Punk’s TRON: LEGACY soundtrack and Kanye West’s “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” – wound up hitting the internet on the same week and the reaction was largely split right down the middle. Everyone loved Kanye and everyone was disappointed by Daft Punk. Strangely (or not so strangely), I felt the exact opposite.
If you were expecting a Daft Punk album, I can see where you were disappointed by the soundtrack. It’s less an album of new music and more an album of music from the film. That isn’t to say it’s not fantastic, which it is, but it probably just threw people for a loop. There are, of course, a few typical Daft Punk songs on the disc including “Derezzed,” a song you likely heard in the myriad commercials and trailers.
The Daft Punk boys created a music video for the song, which is very much inspired by TRON. And not TRON: LEGACY, I mean (though there is obviously some of that) but very much the original TRON, which is refreshing to see. There’s also a cameo at the end, you might want to stick around for.
