Ewan McGregor, perhaps moreso than anyone else on the planet, knows how excited Star Wars fans are for him to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for Disney and LucasFilm's upcoming series. As you're likely to know, the aforementioned series will revolve around the life and times of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi master tasked with shaping the hearts and minds of some of the most powerful Force-sensitive warriors in galaxies far, far away. Here's the thing though, while countless fans are chomping at the bit for the series' arrival, we still have no idea what the show is going to be called.
Recently while speaking with Angélique Roché of the ACE podcast, McGregor joked that he'd love it if the upcoming series went by the name Hello There – which of course is a reference to his iconic line as Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith.
In addition to sharing his cheeky idea for the show's title, McGregor also spoke with ACE about the advancements in filming and special effects since his arrival on the Star Wars scene for George Lucas' The Phantom Menace (1999):
"I'm just going to enjoy it all much more… It was technically quite complicated, I remember. It was all blue screen and green screen. It was hard to imagine it [the surroundings]," McGregor said about the process of filming the second trilogy in the Star Wars film canon. He then added, "I think it's going to feel realer for us, the actors. I don't know if you've seen any of the behind-the scenes The Mandalorian series, but they employ that incredible screen and I don't even begin to know how it works, but it's pretty amazing. So when you're on set, if you're in a snowscape or something, well when you look around you see that and it makes you feel like you're in the place. It's going to feel realer for us."
As much as it pains me to quote the word "realer" so many times, I completely understand where McGregor is coming from with regard to his remarks about modern day tech providing actors with more stimuli, both on and off screen.
Disney's Obi-Wan series is expected to begin filming early next year, provided that we're free and clear of coronavirus drama, of course. Thankfully, Jon Favreau has already alerted press that photography for the series was finished before the lockdown, so at least they've got a leg up in that department.
