Could we see the return of Nightcrawler in X-Men: Days of Future Past?

Yesterday we had a report that Bryan Singer was open to the idea of Halle Berry returning as Storm for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Who else is Singer possibly looking at to return?

The Huffington Post interviewed Bryan Singer for his upcoming JACK THE GIANT SLAYER and while the full interview won’t be published until the end of February, they have released this snippet of information when Singer was asked directly if Alan Cumming would also be returning as Nightcrawler.

Will we ever see Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler again?

I don’t know. We’ll see. You know … we’ll see.

That sounded coy.

[Laughs] Yeah, I know. I don’t want to … sometimes you don’t want to say “yes” or “no” to something that may not be a “yes” or a “no,” or anything. I haven’t decided yet, a few things. I’m still, you know — there are certain aspects of the script that I’m still toying with.

If you’ve read the comics though you know that there’s a connection between Nightcrawler and Azazel from X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, although with as many characters being juggled on screen there may not be enough time to explore that relationship.

One of the reasons why people generally list X2 as their favorite X-Men movie is because of Cumming’s portrayl of Nightcrawler and in particular his epic attack on the White House. And while the criticism that X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST having too many characters may be warranted, one mutant I am definitely down with returning is Nightcrawler.
