Yesterday we had a report that Bryan Singer was open to the idea of Halle Berry returning as Storm for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Who else is Singer possibly looking at to return?

The Huffington Post interviewed Bryan Singer for his upcoming JACK THE GIANT SLAYER and while the full interview won’t be published until the end of February, they have released this snippet of information when Singer was asked directly if Alan Cumming would also be returning as Nightcrawler.

Will we ever see Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler again?

I don’t know. We’ll see. You know … we’ll see.

That sounded coy.

[Laughs] Yeah, I know. I don’t want to … sometimes you don’t want to say “yes” or “no” to something that may not be a “yes” or a “no,” or anything. I haven’t decided yet, a few things. I’m still, you know — there are certain aspects of the script that I’m still toying with.

As a fan of that character, that at least gives me hope.

[Laughs] OK.

So there you go. It’s a solid…maybe. From the sounds of things Bryan Singer is still trying to work out some kinks on how X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is going to play out. Alan Cumming has said recently that he’s game to come back as the fan-favorite mutant so there’s that as well. If you’ve read the comics though you know that there’s a connection between Nightcrawler and Azazel from X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, although with as many characters being juggled on screen there may not be enough time to explore that relationship.

One of the reasons why people generally list X2 as their favorite X-Men movie is because of Cumming’s portrayl of Nightcrawler and in particular his epic attack on the White House. And while the criticism that X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST having too many characters may be warranted, one mutant I am definitely down with returning is Nightcrawler.
