D’Onofrio’s Kingpin to return for Daredevil Season 3, new showrunner named

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Put up your dukes and select your most appropriate cufflinks, because Deadline has exclusively confirmed that Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin will be returning to the MCEU as a part of DAREDEVIL Season 3. In addition to Fisk's return as a major player in the battle against the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, ARROW and THE MAN IN HIGH CASTLE producer Erik Oleson has been named as the Netflix and Marvel program's new showrunner.

Recently, D'Onofrio hinted at his characters return by posting an ominous banner photo to his personal Twitter page. While Marvel and Netflix have yet to announce dates for their upcoming series: DAREDEVIL (Season 3), JESSICA JONES (Season 2), LUKE CAGE (Season 2), executive producer and Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb recently told Deadline that “Vincent is an exceptional actor who returns with the incredible gravitas he brings to Fisk. We’re very excited how Marvel’s Daredevil develops through the creative lens and guidance of our new showrunner, Erik Oleson." As you'll likely recall, the last time we checked in with Fisk, he was living quite comfortably while incarcerated for his crimes perpetrated in the debut season of DAREDEVIL.

Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez were showrunners for Season 2 of DAREDEVIL, with both men moving on to replicate their positions for Marvel's THE DEFENDERS. Petrie wound up leaving the project earlier than anticipated, though Ramirez saw the project through to its completion and subsequent launch. In the past, Oleson had served as an co-producer on CW's ARROW. Most recently, the seasoned superhero producer worked on Amazon's THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE as the show's executive producer and writer.
