Daisy Ridley reveals that her upcoming Star Wars film is not what she expected and people will be excited

Although the character of Rey is one of the many factors in the sequels that divided Star Wars fans, Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy revealed the character is not done in the universe. A new Rey story is on the way that will tell of her attempt to rebuild a New Jedi Order after she had taken possession of Luke’s sacred Jedi texts. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is set to direct the Rey movie from a script written by Steven Knight. Kathleen Kennedy has previously said that the Rey movie will take place 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker

Rey’s actress, Daisy Ridley, has a new film out titled The Marsh King’s Daughter, and she had recently spoken with Collider about what the upcoming Rey film entails. For one, it hasn’t been clear if the new project is intended to be one film or a new trilogy, and Ridley doesn’t seem to have any clearer answers for that, although she does know what the plot is going to involve. “I know the storyline for one film. That’s not to say that that’s all it is, but that’s what I was told about. And I imagine it will be the next film, I think. I mean, again, I don’t know, post strikes and everything, how quickly everything will start up again. But yes, so far, I know the story of one film and I think people will be very excited.” She also has revealed that the plot details made her excited to read the script. “I’m very excited. The story is really cool. I’m waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited.”

While the story details have yet to be announced, Kathleen Kennedy has said that the Rey movie will connect to another Jedi movie that is being developed with James Mangold, who recently helmed Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny for Lucasfilm. Mangold’s project is reportedly set 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga, which will explore the first Jedi and the discovery of the Force. Kennedy expounded, “It was something that Jim [Mangold] immediately sparked to, and I think it’s a really nice compliment to what we’re doing with moving into the future with Rey, and then understanding a bit more of where this all came from. Because it will be at the heart of creating the new Jedi Order, so to get a real sense of where that might have began with the dawn of the Jedi could be pretty cool.”
